In 1999, Hollandsche
Beton Groep, nv (HBG) created HBG Constructors,
Inc. as its North American holding company, combining
the strengths of HBG
Flatiron, Inc., FCI
Constructors, Inc. Southern Division, and FCI
Constructors, Inc. Northern Division.This consolidation
of all the HBG-owned North American companies into
one corporate entity formalized their existing synergy.
HBG Flatiron has worked on the Central Artery
projects in Boston for a number of years. On the
West Coast, HBG Flatiron and FCI Constructors
completed the Benicia-Martinez Bridge Seismic
Retrofit and, in a joint venture with Cleveland
Bridge California, are currently working on the
new Carquinez Bridge in the greater San Francisco
Bay Area. This synergy allows HBG Constructors
to offer its clients a broader range of expertise
and experience, along with increased financial
resources.
A national design/build and construction organization,
HBG Constructors specializes in transportation
and heavy civil projects. Its experience encompasses
major highways, traditional and specialty bridges,
toll roads and light rail transit projects throughout
the United States. The firm is nationally recognized
for its expertise in transportation; in the ENR
2001 Contractors Sourcebook, HBG Constructors
ranked #1 in Bridges and #9 in Transportation.
While the corporation may have grown larger,
it has retained the management and the entrepreneurial
spirit of its American founder, HBG Flatiron.
HBG Flatiron, formerly Flatiron Structures, grew
from a small construction firm in Colorado to
one with national prominence by giving its local
management a great deal of autonomy and control.
That entrepreneurial spirit combined with experienced
professional managers creates an atmosphere conducive
to seizing opportunities, to looking for new ways
of delivering a project and to clear and open
lines of communication.
