
Carolina Bays Parkway
Location: South Carolina
Flatiron Structures Company, managing partner of Palmetto Transportation Constructors, has been awarded a $240 million design-build contract for the Carolina Bays Parkway. The contract includes design, right-of-way acquisition, and construction of a new limited access highway to be completed in 34 months.
Project Features:
- 20 miles of a new 6-lane, limited access, divided highway
- 1.5-mile, four-lane Robert M. Grissom Parkway connector to US 17 that includes a major bridge structure over the Intracoastal Waterway
- Five fully directional interchanges and 20 bridges
- Construction adjacent to environmentally sensitive coastal marsh with 3 bridges spanning associated marsh wetlands.
- Protection of this fragile coastal marsh environment is a high priority, and the team is utilizing "over the top" construction techniques to protect the area.
