FCI Constructors, Inc/Cleveland Bridge California, Inc., a joint venture, is building the new $189 million suspension bridge across the Carquinez Strait navigation channel in the San Francisco Bay. A significant structure by any measure, the Carquinez is the nation's first new major suspension bridge to be built in 35 years.
The joint venture combines the talents of two corporations that specialize in traditional and specialty bridge construction. FCI Constructors is a subsidiary of HBG Constructors Inc., a firm specializing in bridges, large civil and transportation projects. Three HBG subsidiaries, operating as an internal joint venture, are working on the Carquinez Bridge: HBG Flatiron, Inc., the managing partner of the Joint Venture; FCI Constructors North; and Interbeton Inc. They are responsible for all civil work on the project.
Cleveland Bridge California Inc. is a subsidiary of the Cleveland Group, a global leader in technology based engineering, construction and steel fabrication services. The Cleveland Group, operational in over 100 countries, has built signature structures on six continents. Cleveland Bridge, with 40 years experience building suspension bridges and major roles on three of the world's five longest span bridges, is responsible for the steel deck work and the cable system on the Carquinez Bridge.
