Cooper Bridge (Ravenel)
Charleston, South Carolina
On Monday, July 2, 2001 we signed the contract documents at a special
ceremony in Charleston, South Carolina for construction of the $531 million
Ravenel Bridge.
This design build project will be constructed as a joint venture between HBG
Constructors, Inc. and SKANSKA USA through the operating companies Flatiron
Structures and Tidewater Construction Corporation. The joint venture is a
60-40 split with SKANSKA as the managing partner.
The project will include the longest cable stayed bridge in North America
with a 1545' span, flanked by over a mile of 8 lane high level approaches
and significant interchanges in the cities of Mount Pleasant and Charleston.
The towers supporting the cable stayed structure rise approximately 550'
above the top of footing elevation.
The award of this project represents the largest project award for HBG
Constructors, Inc. to date with our share of the project at $212.4 million.
Our experience with South Carolina DOT as an owner and partner has been
extremely good on the Carolina Bays Parkway Project in Myrtle Beach, South
Carolina and we anticipate continuing that relationship on this new project.
