Within the last few years, HBG Flatiron, Inc. has taken a major step into design-build
with its significant role as the managing partner of joint ventures for the
design-build of two toll roads in Southern California. HBG Flatiron, working
in California as FCI Constructors, led the Silverado Constructors team that
completed the Eastern Toll Road, a $780 million project, in early 1999. Currently,
HBG Flatiron is leading the Saddleback Constructors team on the Foothill Toll
Road-South, a $644 million project that is in the design stage.
Designing and building its way across the United States, HBG Flatiron completed the Sagadahoc Bridge, an award winning segmental structure connecting the towns of Bath and Woolwich, Maine. A significant project in many respects, this new structure is Maine Department of Transportation's first Design-Build project.
HBG Flatiron has recently been awarded a $240 million design-build contract for the Carolina Bays Parkway, 20 miles of new 6-lane highway for the South Carolina Department of Transportation. In Utah, HBG Flatiron is leading a joint venture for the design-build of a $72 million extension to Salt Lake City's light rail system.
As public funding tightens, public/private collaboration as demonstrated by the toll road projects, offers innovative opportunities for addressing transportation needs. With the proven skills of its people, combined with the financial and technical depth created through partnerships, Flatiron is well prepared for the burgeoning world of privatization. It brings expertise in innovative financing and state-of-the-art toll systems, as the project may require.
