
Logan Terminal Area Roadway Modernization
Location: Boston, Mass.
Flatiron Structures Company is constructing this $87 million modernization of Logan International Airport's terminal area roadways for the Massachusetts Port Authority. The project consists of elevated and at-grade roadways connecting new and existing terminals and the parking garage. The project is scheduled for completion in September 2003.
Project Features:
- 6,000 lineal feet of elevated roads - cast-in-place, post-tensioned concrete box girder viaducts supported on column/capitals and bents, founded upon a total of 67 large diameter drilled shaft foundations.
- New permanent at-grade roadways beneath and adjacent to the footprint of the viaducts.
- Construction of detour roadways, a temporary bridge structure, transitions between at-grade roadways and viaducts, retaining walls, traffic signage and signalization.
- Construction of 500 lineal feet of a cut-and-cover utility tunnel.
