Bob Wind: international engineer
Like many Dutch engineers, Bob Wind (rhymes with bend) has lived all over the world. He's worked in the U.S., Holland, Libya, Saudi Arabia and Nigeria, and speaks four languages. One of his favorite assignments was working in Nigeria in the early 1980s. He and his wife Janny had two young children then, and he fondly remembers their simple, uncomplicated way of life. "Our group had our own housing compound, a school, a restaurant, and homemade entertainment," he remembers. "We had no phone, no TV - and no bills!"
Bob's family has always moved with him, and he's moved a lot. Much of that time, he worked for Interbeton. "I like water," he emphasizes. "I like working around it." Bob first became acquainted with Misener Marine in 1994 when he worked with them as project manager of the Black Warrior Bridge in Alabama. In December 1999, Bob joined Misener in Tampa as manager of estimating and engineering. He enjoys working with the people in his department, a pleasant and experienced group. Sometimes he misses field work, but he is happy to lead a more settled life now. His son Thys and daughter Ante are both in college in the United States. A registered nurse, his wife works with a home health care organization specializing in hospice care.
Bob has been a runner for years, and appreciates it as a practical form of exercise he can do just about anywhere. He explains, "When I travel, all I have to do is take my track shoes." Bob ran the Boston marathon in 1994, and the Washington D.C. marathon in 1997. In addition to running, Bob enjoys vacations that include camping and hiking. Last year the whole family went on a holiday to Alaska, but he isn't planning a trip next summer since he and Janny will be busy settling into their new home. Of course, once a year the Winds must travel to Holland to see family and friends. They both come from large families, and have many people to visit.
