These days Danny Cruz is up to his armpits in change orders and claims at the Carquinez Bridge. He's delighted to be working on such a major project. Danny has managed several small projects for FCI North, including a $4 million bride in Pleasanton, and a Pumping Station on Route 237. He moved to Carquinez four months ago from the 580/680, where he had worked since the project's beginning.
Danny recalls the frustrating first year when FCI North was getting started, but had not landed any work yet. Once the 580/680 came in, he went from estimator to "instant field engineer." Danny believes learning so many aspects of civil engineering has helped him with project management. Like many other young engineers, he has benefitted from the labor shortage. He says enthusiastically, "I've learned a lot - fast!"
The San Jose native attended Cal Polytechnic Institute in San Luis Obispo, graduating in 1995. After graduation, he worked for RGW for two years, and joined FCI in 1997. In his family of four children, Danny's profession is unusual. His father is a computer engineer for Hewlett Packard, and all three of his siblings went into the computer field.
Danny's wife Elisa is a quality control engineer for a medical manufacturing company. The couple lives in Tracy, as do several other FCI North mployees. Their first child, Alexandria, was born on November 21st. When he's not sleep deprived from fatherhood, Danny loves to attend sporting events. He's an avid fan of the Giants, Raiders, and Sharks.
