Mitch Fowler heads
estimating effort in
Longmont office

"The crazy thing about estimating," explains Mitch Fowler, "is you can get it 100 percent right, but someone else makes a mistake and gets the job!" That's disheartening, but Mitch says you just have to move on. That attitude should help Mitch in his new position as manager of preconstruction services for Flatiron's Civil Division. He'll also be working in cooperation with our Design/Build Division. Mitch came to the company in April 2000 from J.A. Jones Construction Company in Charlotte, North Carolina. He has also worked for PCL Civil Constructors and Green International.

Mitch is delighted with his current estimating team. "Their main focus is on getting things done," he explains. Growing up on a farm in Illinois, Mitch says this philosophy fits his background. "If the livestock got out, no one else went to get them for you. You did it yourself."

Although he valued his upbringing, Mitch chose not to stay on the family farm. He earned a B. S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla. In his varied career, he has tackled everything from underground mine development, to bascule bridges, to field engineering, to estimating, which appeals to him because "You get to build a job in a few months 'in your head.' It moves faster than field work."

Mitch and his wife Sudi have two sons, Freddie (19), and Jordan (7). They are living in Broomfield, Colorado.
