UPDATE: New Mexico 44 Project
Paving contractor sets record on New Mexico 44 project

Ken Schmidt, Travis Thayne, Jason Odegard, and Dean Pitts of Western Mobile New Mexico smile at the news they broke a state record for paving in one day.

Grins were spreading from ear to ear on paving crews in northern New Mexico on May 17th. On that day, Western Mobile/La Farge broke the state record, producing 8,058 tons of asphalt from a single plant to a single paver.
Wes Frick, paving engineer, described the big day eloquently: "Big Bertha ran at about 700 tons per hour, purring like a kitten all day long. They had only 12 trucks, which caused the paver to stop a few times waiting on mix as they progressed further away from the plant. The quality and workmanship looked great!"
Western Mobile/La Farge is the only New Mexican prime contractor on the Highway 44 project. According to project manager Dipak Parekh, the company has been a superb partner, using Flatiron not only as a contract construction manager, but as another set of eyes to help the paving company do its job better. Throughout the project, Western Mobile/La Farge crews have gone out of their way to do extra things. It is very likely they will finish ahead of schedule.

Flatiron's lab and field technicians regularly attend training classes. As a result, they have always stood first or second in the professional training class provided by the State Associated Contractors of New Mexico.
