SPOTLIGHT: Kassie Watson

Project engineer Kassie Watson is not your ordinary kind of gal. Not only is she a woman in a male-dominated profession, but she admits to have actually liked solving mathematical word problems in grade school. That bent for math and science led her to Santa Clara University in California, where she graduated with a B. S. in civil engineering in 1992.

A native of Boulder, Colorado, Kassie has stayed in California since graduation from college.

Her first five years she worked for RGW in the Bay Area, doing falsework and construction design. For the next three years, she worked in construction management as a consultant for the San Francisco Airport. Kassie joined FCI north a year ago, starting out as project manager on a small construction project at Morgan Hill.

Now working at the 580/680 in Pleasanton, Kassie is delighted with the challenges of such a large project. What's it like being a woman in a traditionally male profession? "I've been surprised," says Kassie. "It's not as hard as people think. People respect you for your skills, and if you work hard."
