Terminal Area Roadways project eyes critical milestone of October 1st.

By October 1, 2001, Flatiron crews must have completed 80 percent of the viaduct structure at the Terminal Area Roadways (TAR). Currently 8 of the total 29 viaducts are finished and the rush is on. A year behind schedule, the project has encountered numerous delays.

Complicated detour problems, interfacing with adjacent projects, and a water line encased in contaminated concrete have held things up, but the project has gained momentum, and construction is now moving quickly.

The $87 million project includes constructing elevated and at-grade roadways from the airport terminal to Route 1A and the Ted Williams Tunnel.

Vic Csendes came on board as project manager in December 2000.
