Glenn Shuster joins the Human Resources
staff in Longmont

"I like the human mind," says Glenn Shuster, who joined Longmont's HR department in June. "I've always wanted to find out what drives us inside, and what's learned behavior versus instinct." That interest led him to get an M. A. in Psychology from the State University of New York in 1997.

To his dismay, Glenn found out that theory didn't often apply to real situations. He didn't enjoy one-on-one counseling, so he moved into human resources, where he has worked happily the last five years.

Glenn's most recent job was with Qwest HR in downtown Denver. He discovered the business world fascinated him, and he can still find out what makes people tick.

At HBG, Glenn is involved in recruiting, training and VISAs. He believes the HR department can enhance people's jobs, and is excited about how technology is making it possible to do that even more. In addition to the initiating the training programs mentioned in the adjoining article, Glenn has suggested that IT create a directory for everyone in the company. It would provide a computerized, well-indexed list of names, phone numbers and e-mail, constantly kept up to date. He also is interested in setting up a system for changing your own address, benefits and other information on-line.

Providing on-line training really excites Glenn. He likes the self-selecting features of the program, and is pleased he can soon offer on-site open sessions about the program at the headquarters of all our business units.

When he's not toying with a computer, this energetic young man loves to hike and snow board. A chess fan, he has collected a dozen chess boards from around the world.
