Misener Marine completes Myakka River Bridge

Misener Marine built this new bridge across the Myakka River in Charlotte County, Florida. Only 3.7 miles of roadway approaches remain to be finished on this $24 million project.
Things are looking good near Port Charlotte, 90 miles south of Tampa, where a handsome new bridge spans the Myakka River. Nearly complete on October 1st, this $24 million project included installing 72 drilled shafts with concrete bent caps, and placing 1,200 meters of new seawall. Still left to complete by February are links to the new bridge and approaches to the old one. A subcontractor is doing the roadwork, so almost all Misener Marine employees have left the site except for project manager, Jeff St. John.

"We learned a lot on this project," says Jeff. Getting a water supply for jetting piles was a vexing challenge. Steven Delhass gets the credit for coming up with the idea to use the new drainage system for a roadway to funnel in water for jetting. "We originally thought jetting would be ahead of the drainage work," Jeff explains, "but it ended up reversed." Congratulations to Jeff and the crew for a job well done.
