Approximately 30 employees,
ranging from superintendents to operation managers, are receiving OSHA training
this spring. The six instructors are HBG Constructors field safety managers
from coast to coast who completed a 40-hour course developed by OSHA. The
instructors include Rich Willey, Misener Marine; Brian De Tinne, FCI South;
Howard Hendricks, PTC; Duwayne Bahusen, Carquinez; and Rob Hughes, FCI North.
OSHA requires all construction employees to have 10 hours of training each
year. The 10-hour course is an overview of OSHA regulations and how they
apply to construction. Course content includes fall protection, personal
protective equipment, electrical and crane safety, trenching and excavation,
confined space, etc.
After completing the course, participants will receive a certification card
from OSHA. This card and the one certifying the instructors to teach the
course, are the only certifications that OSHA will endorse. According to
safety manager Chris Peck, the instruction has been modified to "make
it more user friendly and applicable to our standards." The training
should be completed by early May. |
