
Project Overview:
Interbeton,
as a joint venture member with J.F.
White and Slattery
Skanska, constructed the $160 million I-93/ Massachusetts
Avenue interchange, an integral part of the Central Artery
Project. This work for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority
encompassed demolishing elevated parts of I-93 and rebuilding
new viaducts. This project was completed in November 2000.

Removal of existing viaducts and construction of 6 new steel
viaducts
3 new auxiliary bridges
1,760 foot-long temporary bridge
4.6 miles of new at-grade roadway
2 new stormwater pump stations
Excavation, removal and disposal of contaminated material

Interesting Facts:
Materials used on this project included 63.8 miles of steel
pipe piles, 220 steel tub girders, 216 precast I-beams, 101,791
cubic yards of concrete and more than 8 million pounds of
structural reinforcing steel
