Project Overview:
Awarded to FCI North in August, 2002, this project for the
Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will create
a safer environment for those traveling between California
routes 85 and 101. Providing a new northbound 85/101 interchange,
the construction will also connect new High Occupancy Vehicle
(HOV) lanes to existing carpool lanes, and improve three adjacent
interchange ramps.
Four main elements make up phases one and two of this project:
1 - Construction of the first new bridge - the northbound
85 to Shoreline Blvd. off-ramp
2 - Temporary alignment of northbound 85/101 traffic onto
this new bridge
3 - Removal of existing northbound 85/101
4 - Construction of the northbound 85/101 overcrossing and
the 85/101 HOV lanes
The final phase of this project will be to direct traffic
onto the new roadway and complete the Shoreline Blvd. off-ramp.
Reconstruction of the Old Middlefield Way overcrossing is
ongoing throughout all three phases, with project completion
scheduled for August, 2005.
