Project Overview:

HBG Flatiron is partnered with the M. DeMatteo Construction Company in a joint venture constructing the $185 million interchange on Interstate 90. This new interchange will connect the Ted Williams Tunnel to the Logan International Airport roadways and is nearly complete.

Project Features:

1,300 linear feet of permanent I-90 connection varying from two to eight lanes

8,000 linear feet of viaduct consisting of cast-in-place, post-tensioned box girders with single, double and triple-cell design with post-tensioned, cantilevered decks

6,000 feet of reinforced concrete, open-depressed roadway (boat section) and tunnels constructed using the cut-and-cover method (boat and tunnel walls are typically over 2 feet thick and range from 2 to 25 feet high)

I-90 base foundation was integral with the tunnel roof and was constructed askew to the tunnel alignment. The tunnel roof also supported approximately 500 feet of viaduct above, creating in effect a three-level roadway system all at differing skews to each other

9,000 feet of at-grade approach roadways that include both temporary and permanent local roads (to maintain traffic into and out of Logan Airport during construction, 30 detour roads were created, ranging from 200 to 2,000 feet-long)
