

Project Overview:
HBG
Flatiron is constructing an $87 million modernization
of Logan International Airport's terminal area roadways
for the Massachusetts Port Authority. The project consists
of elevated and at-grade roadways connecting new and
existing terminals and the parking garage. The project
is scheduled for completion in August 2004.

Project Progression:
January 2003
Since the major milestone opening of the viaduct roadways
in August, crews have begun work on the final phases
of the project. The completion of the at grade roadways
and two sections of viaduct roadway, one in front of
terminal C and the other an exit from the west garage
to the main viaduct roadway, will be ongoing throughout
the winter months.
August 2002
This project achieved milestones 6 and 7 out of a total
14, on Saturday, August 3, 2002. Traffic is now flowing
over the newly
opened viaducts.

Project Features:
6,000 linear feet of elevated roads - cast-in-place,
post-tensioned concrete box girder viaducts. The superstructure
is supported by large columns, founded upon a total
of 67 large-diameter, drilled-shaft foundations
New permanent at-grade roadways beneath and adjacent
to the footprint of the viaducts
Construction of detour roadways, a temporary bridge,
transitions between at-grade roadways and viaducts,
retaining walls and traffic signage
Construction of 500 linear feet of a cut-and-cover utility
tunnel
