Peter Saunderson has 30 years experience in the design and construction of major civil projects in Europe and North America. His emphasis, since receiving his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Manchester, has been in construction engineering. In 1981 Peter formed Somerset Engineering Ltd., combining his love of structures and construction. The company offers specialty construction engineering services to general contractors and steel erection firms.
In 1989 he and two of his longtime professional associates formed KWH Constructors as a specialized steel erection company, expanding Somerset Engineering into the erection of bridges and special structures. Peter currently is Manager of Engineering for Flatiron/KWH Constructors. Somerset Engineering, now a division of Flatiron/KWH, remains the backbone of the KWH/Flatiron Constructors operations and will continue to function as a service group to the construction industry.
Peter's projects include many significant structures, including the Alex Fraser Bridge in British Columbia; the Lacey V. Murrow Bridge widening in Seattle; major interchanges on I-75 and I-95 in Florida; the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, West Virginia; the Shasta Dam Temperature Control Device for the Bureau of Reclamation; and the Crooked River Bridge in Oregon.
